Friendship Bookstore's History

Friendship Bookstore began as a small book and gift shop in Belleville, PA.  Founded by Mr. Ray French, the store sold books and bibles to the surrounding rural community.  Eventually the store moved to downtown Lewistown.

Theil Kauffman began working at the store part-time while in high school. After graduating from college and working as a teacher for several years, he became manager in 1978.  Theil and his wife, Andrea, purchased Friendship Bookstore in January of 1987.

Located on S. Brown Street, Lewistown for most of the store's existence, Friendship Bookstore moved to its present location at the Mifflin County Commons in Burnham, PA in July of 2004.  The current 5,500 square foot store features distinct gift, bible, jewelry, music, book, greeting card, children's product, Christian education, and church supply departments.

Friendship Bookstore provides Christian resources for churches, families, and individuals that help them grow in their relationship with Christ and in their ministry to others.

Friendship Bookstore supports local authors and musicians through local interest sections and in-store events, and provides general resources specific to Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.
